UTULEI, American Samoa - This morning, the conference room at the Governor’s Office was filled with laughter, excitement, and the bright energy of young smiles as the youth participants of the Discovering American Samoa summer program, hosted by the Agency for Better Living Endeavors (ABLE), paid a special visit to meet with the Honorable Acting Governor, Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr.

The visit was a highlight of the day for the children, who are enrolled in the 4-week Discovering American Samoa ABLE program that introduces students between the ages of 7 and 13 to American Samoa’s rich history, cultural heritage, and unique island identity. The students engaged the Acting Governor in an open and lively dialogue, asking questions and sharing their experiences in the program. Their curiosity and enthusiasm lit up the room, creating a vibrant atmosphere that was both heartwarming and inspiring.

Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala extended a warm welcome to the children, personally greeting each child with a handshake and delivering an address filled with encouragement and thoughtful guidance. He commended the youth for their active participation in programs like Discovering American Samoa by ABLE and emphasized the importance of education, cultural pride, and staying on the right path. He also shared a heartfelt message urging the students to practice speaking our native language, remain drug- and alcohol-free; reinforcing the role they play in shaping the future of American Samoa.

“The energy and excitement these young minds bring is a testament to the power of investing in our future,” said Lt. Governor Pulumataala. “Programs like ABLE’s Discovering American Samoa create meaningful experiences that teach our children to value their heritage while exploring new ideas and skills.” A young participant, Sili Lutu asked “How does it feel to be Acting Governor?”, with a warm chuckle, Lt. Governor Pulumataala responded with “I’m fortunate to serve the people of American Samoa with the help of God”

Following their engaging session with Lieutenant Governor, the children were given a special guided tour of the various offices and divisions within the Governor’s Office. The young explorers had the opportunity to see firsthand the inner workings of the territory’s executive branch and learn more about the roles of public servants in supporting the people of American Samoa. To conclude their visit, the children received a package of school supplies, treats and were graciously treated to a pizza lunch.

The Discovering American Samoa summer program provides participants with immersive learning experiences including cultural demonstrations, field trips across the island, digital storytelling, STEAM-based activities, arts and crafts projects, and visits to local museums. The initiative reflects ABLE’s commitment to promoting better living through education, creativity, and community engagement.
