The Department of Search and Rescue Breaks Ground for its New Headquarters

TAFUNA, American Samoa - This morning in Tafuna, a proud moment of unity unfolded as Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. joined government leaders, community members, and distinguished guests to break ground on the Department of Search and Rescue’s (DSAR) new headquarters, a project that promises to strengthen emergency response capabilities across American Samoa.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Vice Speaker of the House Fetū Fetui Jr., Representative Fagaima Larry Sanitoa, Senator Olo Letuli, members of the cabinet, and invited guests, all united in support of a safer, stronger American Samoa.
The ceremony, led by DSAR Deputy Director Lomu Mosese, opened with a moving invocation and spiritual message delivered by Reverend Aneli Fakahofo, grounding the event in gratitude and purpose.
The gathering reflected the territory’s collective commitment to public safety and progress. Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala delivered remarks on behalf of the government, expressing deep appreciation for DSAR’s tireless service. He called on fellow leaders in attendance to embrace collaboration, stating, “We are the leaders of this territory, and our responsibility is unity, to provide efficient service to our people.”
Following the ceremonial groundbreaking, a special presentation by the Haleck family added a generous and impactful gesture to the day. Dave Aumua Haleck on behalf of the Haleck Enterprises, Tradewinds Hotel and their family, donated a brand-new fire truck valued at $80,000, designated to serve the western region of the island, an investment in safety that was met with heartfelt applause.
