Territorial Energy Office Launches Commercial Energy Audit Training
with National Renewable Energy Laboratory

TAFUNA, American Samoa — The Territorial Energy Office (TEO) officially opened its Commercial Energy Audit Training (CEAT) on August 12, 2025, partnering with professionals from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to build local expertise in energy efficiency and sustainability. The training is being held at the Election Office in Tafuna’s Conference Room. The two professional trainers are Mr. Kosol Kiatreungwattana and Mr. Otto Van Geet.
In his special remarks, Governor Pulaali'i Nikolao Pula expressed his enthusiasm for the program, sharing his hope that this training will yield lasting benefits for American Samoa’s energy future. He noted that the expertise shared by NREL’s visiting professionals will help strengthen key discussion points when he meets with the Western Governors Association in September to address regional energy concerns.
Governor Pulaali'i emphasized the importance of the CEAT program, thanking the two professional trainers for dedicating their time and knowledge to assist in shaping sustainable energy solutions for the Territory. “This training is not just workshops, but is an investment in our people and in our future,” he stated.
The CEAT program is a key component of TEO’s Workforce Development Initiative to Empower a Sustainable Future for American Samoa. It is designed to enhance local capacity for informed energy decision-making through expert-led sessions and hands-on field exercises. Participants, drawn from various American Samoa Government departments involved in energy-related work, will develop skills to evaluate, prioritize, and design energy efficiency interventions that foster sustainable development and strengthen economic resilience across the Territory.
