STEAM Family Day Celebrates Youth, Innovation, and Community
at DYWA Tafuna Facility

TAFUNA, American Samoa - Families, students, educators, and community partners gathered on Saturday, December 20, for STEAM Family Day, a community-centered event focused on “Sustaining Hope through STEAM.” The event highlighted Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) as vital pathways for youth development, workforce readiness, and community resilience in American Samoa.
STEAM Family Day was hosted by OceaniaCDN, in partnership with the American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency (AS-EPA), Department of Youth & Women’s Affairs (DYWA), and members of the STEAM Education Initiative (SEI) Network. The event provided hands-on activities, career exposure, educational resources, and cultural performances designed to engage youth and families during the school break.
The program opened with an invocation by Pastor Ioane Tailiki of Jesus Saves AOG Nuuuli, followed by welcoming remarks and leadership messages. Lieutenant Governor Pulu shared brief remarks emphasizing the importance of investing in young people and nurturing their potential through education and opportunity.
“Our youth are the future of this territory,” said Lieutenant Governor Pulu. “When we invest in STEAM education, we are investing in their dreams, their skills, and their ability to lead American Samoa forward with hope and innovation.”
