Department of Parks & Recreations Opens New Playground at the Tafuna Industrial Park

TAFUNA, American Samoa - The Department of Parks and Recreation hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Tafuna Industrial Park to officially open the newly completed playground this morning. The event was led by Deputy Director Taimalelagi Dave Godinet, who welcomed guests and acknowledged the significance of the project for the surrounding community.

Special remarks were delivered by the Deputy of the National Park Service, Pua Tuaua, who expressed his gratitude for the continued partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation. He commended the department’s dedicated staff for their hard work and commitment, noting that their efforts have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. Deputy Tuaua also recognized the support of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor in advancing community-centered initiatives.

Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala followed with words of appreciation, extending heartfelt thanks to the many hands and feet behind the success of the project. He emphasized that teamwork remains the driving force that allows projects such as this to fall into place, ultimately contributing to the betterment of the community.

Director Andrew Pelesasa then spoke on behalf of the department, acknowledging his staff for their perseverance and dedication throughout the development of the playground. He also recognized the contractors, Vailu’u & Sons, for their exceptional workmanship and commitment to quality.

Director Pelesasa proceeded to introduce Governor Pulaali’i, who offered closing remarks. The Governor expressed his appreciation to Director Pelesasa and the entire Parks and Recreation team for their outstanding efforts. He commended the department and its partners for their continued work in enhancing public spaces and creating meaningful recreational opportunities for families across the territory.

The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon cutting, followed by a guided walkthrough of the new playground, marking the beginning of its service to the community.
