Acting Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. Attends Reopening of the
Tauese P.F. Sunia Ocean Center
UTULEI, American Samoa - The National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa hosted a special ceremony marking the official reopening of the Tauese P. F. Sunia Ocean Center, a vital educational and cultural resource for the territory. Acting Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. joined honored guests, community leaders, and partner agencies in celebrating the revitalized facility and its renewed mission to inspire stewardship of the islands’ marine environment.
The program opened with a warm welcome address delivered by Atuatasi Peau, followed by an invocation offered by Rev. Elder Ioane Evagelia of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, Utulei. The American Samoa Choir then led the gathering in a hymn, setting a reverent tone for the occasion.
Acting Governor Pulumataala delivered special remarks, expressing his gratitude to guests who traveled from near and far to witness the reopening. He extended heartfelt thanks to the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa and its partners for their dedication to restoring the Ocean Center, emphasizing its importance as a place where students, families, and visitors can learn about the territory’s marine ecosystems and the shared responsibility to protect them.
A highlight of the ceremony included the debut performance of the new National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa song, presented by members of the American Samoa Choir. Following the formal program, guests and attendees were invited to tour the renovated facility, exploring its exhibits and educational spaces. The event concluded with refreshments and additional musical selections by the choir.
The Tauese P. F. Sunia Ocean Center will officially open its doors to the public this Saturday. The National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa warmly invites the community to visit, experience the new exhibits, and join in supporting the continued education and protection of the territory’s unique marine resources.
