American Samoa Pays Tribute to its Veterans with a Commemorative Ceremony and Festivities Hosted by the Office of Veterans & Military Affairs

TAFUNA, American Samoa - In a moving observance of valor and dedication, the Office of Veterans and Military Affairs hosted a commemorative gathering that brought together distinguished leaders, honored veterans, and devoted families to pay homage to those who have worn the uniform in defense of our territory and nation.

Presiding over the occasion were Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula and First Lady Lois Pula, joined by Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr., Congresswoman Aumua Amata, members of the Cabinet, Representative Faimealelei Allen, and Senator Letuli. Their presence reflected the government’s deep reverence for the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.

The ceremony commenced under the capable direction of Master of Ceremonies Lauti Faafetai Lauti of the Army Reserve. Reverend Timoteo Ulugalu of CCCAS Utumea Church, a veteran of distinction, offered a profound invocation and spiritual reflection that anchored the event in gratitude and grace.

A ceremonial raising of the flags representing each branch of the United States Armed Forces followed, with veterans and active-duty personnel in attendance standing to be acknowledged. Included in the ceremony was a POW/MIA flag, a solemn tribute to those who were taken as Prisoners of War or listed as Missing In Action and have not yet returned home. Together, these symbolic gestures celebrated the unity, pride, and enduring legacy shared across generations of service.

Governor Pulaali’i delivered a message of deep appreciation, extending heartfelt thanks on behalf of the American Samoa Government and the people of the territory. His words resonated with sincerity and admiration for the enduring legacy of our veterans. Senator Gaoteote Pala’ie, himself a veteran, served as the keynote speaker. His address was a moving tribute to the courage and commitment of those who serve, emphasizing that the highest form of honor is found in selfless service to one’s country.

Congresswoman Uifa’atali Aumua Amata, also a veteran, offered closing remarks that echoed the collective gratitude of the territory. She recognized the significance of the day and expressed unwavering support for veterans both in American Samoa and across the United States.

The formal proceedings transitioned into a vibrant Family Fun Day, hosted by the Office of Veterans and Military Affairs. Families enjoyed a variety of festivities, celebrating in fellowship and joy while honoring the spirit of service that binds the community together. The celebration honored the valor, sacrifice, and unity of those who have served. American Samoa stands proud, forever indebted to its veterans.
