Acting Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. Joins Coast Weeks Kick-off
led by the Department of Commerce

UTULEI, American Samoa - The American Samoa Department of Commerce (ASDOC) officially kicked off its annual Coast Weeks celebration early Monday morning of September 15, 2025 with a vibrant and spirited “Awareness Wave” joined by Acting Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. The event gathered enthusiastic participation with various departments and the community, setting the tone for a month dedicated to honoring and protecting our coastal resources.

Following the wave, an opening ceremony was held where the Acting Governor delivered heartfelt remarks to those gathered. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in preserving our natural environment, stating, “Our natural resources ocean, land, rainforest, wetlands, and streams are essential to our well-being and future. Protect them through daily action with your family, village, and community. A clean environment begins with each of us.”
The ceremony was followed by the much-anticipated Ocean Golf Tee-Off with an inaugural drive by Acting Governor Pulumataala, which brought together community members in a unique and joyful celebration of coastal stewardship. The Ocean Golf Tee-Off showcased an Eco-Bio Golf ball that creates no pollution and allows golfers to improve sustainability and biodiversity of the marine environment.
This year’s Coast Weeks theme, A Healthy Coast is a Wealthy Coast, centers on community action and environmental responsibility, reminding us all that the health of our coastlines begins with the choices we make every day. The Department of Commerce encourages everyone to take part in upcoming events and to continue the momentum by making sustainable practices a part of daily life.
