American Samoa Department of Human Resources Holds Opening Ceremony for their New American Job Center

NU’UULI, American Samoa - The American Samoa Department of Human Resources (DHR) in partnership with its core workforce development allies, proudly celebrated the grand opening of the new American Job Center located at the Levu Building in Nu’uuli. This milestone represents a significant step forward in expanding access to employment, professional skills, training, and support services for the people of American Samoa.

The ceremony was led by DHR representative Faasisina Loa and commenced with an invocation and spiritual message delivered by Pastor Poutoa Leituala. Pastor Leituala shared a profound message rooted in Samoan wisdom, “E le o le fale, a o le anofale”. It means, “It is not the building, but what is inside the building, and the outcome of what comes out of the building, truly matters.” Pastor Leituala reminds us that the true value of any space, community or institution lies not in its physical structure, but in the spirit, purpose, and impact of those in it. Honorable Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula joined the celebration, standing alongside DHR and its partners to commemorate the launch of this vital community resource.
The new one-stop center operates under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) division of DHR and brings together a coalition of dedicated partners, including; Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), American Samoa Community College (ASCC), Department of Education (DOE), Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA), Department of Commerce (DOC), American Samoa Empowering Pacific Island Communities (EPIC), Parents Of Children with Special Needs Network (PCSN), and Deeper Waters Center.
Governor Pulaali’i delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of providing the people of American Samoa with greater access to job opportunities, professional guidance, and holistic support. He commended the Department of Human Resources and its partners for their collaborative efforts and vision, stating that the center will “undoubtedly benefit our people of American Samoa.”
Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting, performed jointly by Governor Pulaali’i and the Director of Human Resources, Titiaoali’i Dr. Asenati Saau-Umi, guests and attendees were invited to tour the new facility. The walkthrough offered an in-depth look at the comprehensive services that will be available at the center, including career counseling, job placement assistance, training programs, and support for individuals with special needs.
The One Stop Center or the American Job Center of American Samoa stands as a beacon of progress and empowerment, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and workforce readiness across the territory.
