American Samoa Department of Agriculture Marks National Farmers Market Week with Community Events at Fagatogo Market

FAGATOGO, American Samoa – On August 8, 2025, the American Samoa Department of Agriculture (ASDOA) hosted a series of activities at the Fagatogo Market to celebrate National Farmers Market Week. The events aimed to promote local agriculture, healthy eating, and active living among residents.
EFNEP staff from the ASCC Agriculture, Community, and Natural Resources Division led cooking demonstrations featuring simple recipes using local ingredients. Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. joined as a guest chef, engaging with the community.

The ASDOA Extension Division provided gardening outreach and distributed free seedlings to encourage residents to start their own gardens. Community Nutritionist Travis from ASCC led an exercise session promoting wellness.

The day concluded with a cooking demonstration by Chef Devynne, attended by Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula, the First Lady, and Governor’s Office representatives, highlighting dishes made from fresh, local produce.
Governor Pula expressed his support for local farmers and the importance of healthy food choices for the community.
This event is part of American Samoa’s participation in the National Great American Farmers Market celebration in Washington, D.C., reflecting the Territory’s commitment to agriculture and nutrition.
