Historic Alliance forged between American Samoa Council on Arts, Culture and Humanities and Samoa Ministry of Education and Culture

Apia, Samoa - The American Samoa Council on Arts, Culture and Humanities and the Samoa Ministry of Education and Culture proudly announce the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to officially launch the "O le Usoga Fesilafa'i" Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering cultural exchange and deeper understanding between the youth of American Samoa and Samoa through the Arts.


The agreement was formalized on July 22, 2025 at the Ministry of Education and Culture office, during a meeting between Ammon Fepulea’i, Director of the American Samoa Council on the Arts, Culture and Humanities and A’eau Christopher Hazelman, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Memorandum of Understanding signifies a shared commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Samoa while creating meaningful opportunities for artistic collaboration and youth engagement.

“Today marks a historic milestone with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Samoa Ministry of Education and Culture and the American Samoa Council on Arts, Culture and Humanities. This partnership will strengthen our Youth Exchange Program, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration to empower our youth and preserve our Fa’aSamoa for future generations”, said Director Ammon Fepulea’i.

 

The program will roll out a series of joint cultural events, student exchanges, and collaborative performances, showcasing the shared heritage. This historic partnership reflects the ongoing commitment of both the American Samoa Council on Arts, Culture and Humanities and Samoa Ministry of Education and Culture to protect and advance cultural traditions while encouraging innovation and creative expression among the youth.
