American Samoa Celebrates Historic Opening of Maota o Fono Legislative Building

FAGATOGO, American Samoa - In a momentous occasion marking a new chapter in the territory’s governance, Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula, accompanied by the First Lady, stood alongside Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr., honored dignitaries from Samoa, esteemed representatives, senators, and distinguished guests for the grand opening of the Maoto o Fono, the new legislative building of American Samoa.

 

The dedication service was led with dignity by Speaker of the House Savali Talavou Ale, who guided the proceedings with reverence. The ceremony commenced with an invocation offered by Reverend Elder Faaeteete Saifoloi, grounding the event in faith and tradition.

Governor Pulaali’i delivered special remarks during the service. In his address, he affirmed, “God will raise a generation of servants who are resilient in faith, that will serve the people of American Samoa”. He added that the new Maoto o Fono is a beacon of hope and service for the people of Tutuila and Manu’a. Governor Pulaali’i emphasized that this achievement represents a renewed commitment to the people of American Samoa, ensuring that the voices of Tutuila and Manu’a will be heard and honored within its walls.

 

The President of the Senate delivered remarks on behalf of the Fono, expressing gratitude to the previous and current administrations for their support in accomplishing this huge milestone. This was followed by a special address from Papali’i Alofa of Paramount Builders, the contractor responsible for the building. The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from the Speaker of the House, Savali Talavou Ale.

With distinction, First Lady Dr. Lois Pula carried out the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, followed by the blessing of the new building by Most Reverend Bishop Kolio Etuale Tumanuvao. Afterward, Honored guests were invited to tour the new building.

 

This historic event brought together leaders and citizens in celebration of progress, faith, and the promise of a brighter future. The new legislative building now stands as the cornerstone of democratic governance in American Samoa, poised to serve generations to come.
