American Samoa Celebrates 126th Flag Day

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa - American Samoa proudly celebrated its 126th Flag Day, marking 126 years of a meaningful and enduring relationship with the United States.
This year’s festivities began with a church service held at the Methodist Hall in Tafuna. Following the opening church service, the American Samoa Council on Arts, Culture, and Humanities also hosted a three-night 50th Performing Arts Festival, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and talents of our people.
One of the main highlights or the “Super Bowl” of our territory was the much anticipated Fautasi Race, which saw 13 boats vie for the title as the Champions for this years’ Flag Day.
A State Luncheon was also held to honor our distinguished guests both from off-island and locally.
In the early hours of Friday morning, April 17 2026, the flags of our proud territory and the United States were ceremonially raised at Malae o le Talu in Fagatogo. Celebrations continued at the Veterans Memorial Stadium with a vibrant parade and cultural performances.
This year, American Samoa was honored to welcome the Deputy Secretary of the Interior, Katharine MacGregor, and her delegation to join in the celebrations, the Speaker of the House from Samoa and military personnel.

In his Flag Day address, Governor Pulaaliʻi Nikolao Pula expressed his gratitude to the people of American Samoa for their continued support as he and Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. serve the territory. Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Children are the Future of Samoa,” the Governor emphasized the shared responsibility to nurture and guide the next generation. He reaffirmed that the work done today is for the future of our children, who will carry forward the legacy of our people. The Governor concluded by encouraging unity, love, and faith, urging everyone to continue lifting one another in prayer, to love one another, and to always put God first.
The parade showcased Nu’uuli Vocational-Technical High School and Tafuna High Schools’ creative floats and presentations, alongside participation from the flag day winning teams, cultural dance groups, community organizations and groups from the private sector.
The finale of the festivities featured performances by Manu’a, Faga’itua, Samoana, and Leone High Schools, presenting traditional songs and dances that proudly celebrated Samoan culture and identity.
American Samoa stands united in celebration of its heritage, its people, and its future. Happy 126th Flag Day, American Samoa!
